Rangers are back in the title race – is Danny Rohl the reason?

Artikelbild:Rangers are back in the title race – is Danny Rohl the reason?

One of the most bizarre questions that Rangers fans are asking today is bizarre simply because the club would never have dreamed of this around two and a half to three months ago when the club was 11th in the table. Are Rangers genuinely in the title race now? Astonishingly the answer is yes to Rangers title credentials. Rangers are right on the heels of Celtic and just five points behind Hearts. That was unthinkable earlier this season.

Do We Have Rohl To Thank?

Do we have Danny Rohl to thank for this? Yes and no. Rohl has brought about a level of stability with the results. As we have mentioned before, the results against the top six have been a 50% win ratio. Not great but not horrendous. But this is like the bizarre season in 2016 in England where every single one of the big six were in horrendous form bizarrely at the same time giving an in for Leicester City to come from nowhere and win the title. It can happen that all of the big teams in a league are absolutely horrendous at the same time.

Hearts Losing Momentum

Hearts are dipping into that territory now having had an incredible first six months or half of the season. Those wheels have just started to shake a little bit. Celtic were pretty average but good enough to lead the league by their standards. Until Rodgers decided that he’d had enough and that ball started to roll in the direction that they didn’t want. Meanwhile Hearts were quietly getting good results in the background and hanging around the top two most of the season. McInnes was rightfully receiving a ton of praise for what he achieved with a limited squad against the Old Firm. But even those wheels have started to just shake a bit and in the last month none of the top three have an exemplary record.

Everyone Dropping Points

There have been defeats, draws as well as wins for all of these clubs and it honestly is anyone’s guess at this point who’s going to win the league. Celtic do still remain favourites with the bookies, they always will because at the end of the day they have been dominant in Scotland since 2012. They are the side to beat even if their manager at the moment is hilariously awful. But nevertheless a victory for Rangers at Parkhead would absolutely catapult Rangers completely into a title race. Which is an absolutely staggering thing to say given where we were under Russell Martin.

Rohl’s Record So Far

Rohl still has a lot to prove, there is plenty for the German coach of Rangers to convince many fans about. But you cannot say the position in the table is undeserved based on his points accrual since he came in. The fact is that league wise Rohl has only dropped a complete total of 7 points. Four points in the two draws, Falkirk and Dundee United and three points against Hearts.

A Remarkable Turnaround

That is an impressive number given where we were before and it harks back in to what Barry Ferguson said all those years ago and we will make a reference to that in another entry. But yes Rangers Rangers title credentials do appear to be back in the title race astonishingly after how the season started. And a victory at Parkhead really would set the cat among pigeons and might just change the bookies’ numbers.
