Rayo Vallecano reach Conference League final, Spain clinch second in UEFA coefficient | OneFootball

Rayo Vallecano reached the Europa Conference League final at the expense of Strasbourg on Thursday, a result that guarantees Spain will retain second place in UEFA’s coefficient next season. It also confirms five Spanish clubs in the next Champions League.

Rayo won 1-0 on the night, having also edged the first leg 1-0. According to L'Équipe, the points from that victory made Spain uncatchable for third-placed Germany, with England still well clear this season on 28.125 compared with Spain’s 22.093.

There will therefore remain five Spanish qualifiers for the Champions League, with Betis Seville well placed to take the final spot.

It was nearly different. Had Julio Enciso converted a 90+3 penalty and had Rayo only drawn, Spain would have had to wait a little longer.
