RB Leipzig phenom Assan Ouédraogo’s eagerly anticipated comeback from injury unfortunately lasted only one match. The 19-year-old mega-talented started and played 60 minutes for his Bundesliga club in Leipzig’s 2-0 victory over SC Freiburg on Wednesday evening. RB head coach Ole Werner has nevertheless confirmed that the exciting newly-capped German international will not be available this weekend against Bayern Munich

Werner offered up few details at his Friday pre-match press conference, rather grimly noting that Ouédraogo was scheduled for a new battery of tests this weekend. It may prove the case that Ouédraogo is set for another spell on the sidelines. Since joining the German Red Bulls ahead of the 2024/25 season, various injuries have limited Ouédraogo to just 18 appearances in his club’s 67 competitive appearances over the last 18 months.

Ouédraogo’s facial attacking partner Johan Bakayoko is also out with muscle issues, rendering it likely that AFCON returnee Yan Diomande and Norwegian Antonio Nusa will start on the attacking flanks in Werner’s 4-1-4-1. German national team right back Benjamin Henrichs will feature in the matchday selection for the first time all year, but is not fit enough to start.

New January signing Suleiman Sani also isn’t quite available yet as, Werner revealed, the Nigerian is still getting his work visa situation in order. Defender Lukas Klostermann (infection) won’t be able to partake. Everyone else of relevance remains available ahead of a monster match against the German record champions.

Leipzig plan to honor Kevin Kampl

RB hope to erase the horrible memories of their 6-0 away thrashing at the hands of Bayern during the 2025/26 Bundesliga’s official “opening night” match. The Saxon club have prepared a small morale boost ahead of kickoff as they honor recently retired Slovene international Kevin Kampl at the Red Bull Arena. A brief ceremony shall gibe the team and the crowd a boost.

Kevin has earned it over the years,” Werner said of the planned-tribute on Friday. “He’s one of the major faces of this club.”
