What an unbelievable game that was against Leeds in midweek. To win it in the way that we did, in the tenth minute of added time after being behind three times, was one of the best feelings I’ve had in football.
To score a late goal in football is always special and the atmosphere was amazing. I had the chance to get it back to 3-3 with a stoppage time penalty, and I can say now that there was big pressure on my back in that moment!
But I had no doubts – I knew I could not miss and, thank God, I was able to stay calm and composed to score an important goal for us before, soon afterwards, Harvey Barnes provided a moment which will be talked about for many years to come.
I was so proud of the boys, so proud of the team so proud of the fans. At times, with various things going against us, it was tough to stay calm at times throughout the game. One of the messages, at half time and during the second half, was to make sure that we kept 11 players on the pitch, because the match was already difficult, and we kept our heads until the very end.
With that character and mentality, we deserved to make it three wins in a row and we have to keep going in the same way now.
Amongst the happiness after the final whistle, we are praying for Fabian Schär. We don’t know how bad his injury is yet, but it didn’t look nice. We are all with him and hopefully he can come back as soon as possible.
But we are very glad to have Sven Botman back. He came on in the game after a long time out and he was very solid defensively and good on the ball.
And Lewis Miley – what a player. I didn’t know he could play centre-back! I think he deserves to go to the World Cup with England if he keeps his levels like this, because he can play in every position and put in top class performances.
When I was 19, I wasn’t even playing in the first team on a regular basis, while Lewis is putting in displays like that week after week in the Premier League. I am proud of him. We know we can count on him wherever he plays.
It’s great to have Tino Livramento and Tripps available again, too. Our squad is going to be important with the schedule we have. January is always a hard month, with plenty of games to play.
Almost as soon as the final whistle blew on Wednesday – even though we were still in ecstasy about what had just happened – we were already thinking about today’s game.
In English football at this time of year, you don’t really have time to celebrate; we were already focusing on Bournemouth.
It’s a new opportunity. We want to progress in the FA Cup and while it’s going to be another tough game, that’s exactly what we’re aiming to do this afternoon.
