Real Madrid have been dealt a major setback in their transfer plans as one of their top targets, Vitinha, is on the verge of committing his long-term future to Paris Saint-Germain, reports MARCA.
The Portuguese midfielder, who has been outstanding for the French champions, is now expected to sign a contract extension that will keep him at the Parc des Princes beyond 2029.
For Madrid, this comes as a blow. The club had been monitoring Vitinha for months, seeing him as an ideal fit for the midfield pivot role.
With Toni Kroos already retired and Luka Modric gone, Real Madrid are preparing for a generational shift in midfield.
While youngsters such as Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Federico Valverde have stepped up, the club has been searching for a long-term solution who could anchor the midfield for years to come. Vitinha seemed to fit that profile perfectly.

Paris Saint-Germain have made their stance clear. The French giants view Vitinha as one of the key pillars of their future and have worked quickly to secure his services.
French football regulations, which do not permit release clauses in contracts, also play into PSG’s hands.
For what it is worth, Vitinha himself has shown no interest in leaving. His consistent performances and growing influence under Luis Enrique highlight his importance to PSG’s project.
By renewing until 2029 earlier this year, the Portuguese star has reaffirmed his commitment to the club’s ambitions, effectively shutting down any chance of a move to Madrid.
For Real Madrid, this means they will need to shift focus elsewhere. The club’s hierarchy remains determined to strengthen the midfield, but Vitinha’s extension proves that some of Europe’s brightest talents will not be easy to prise away.
