Since taking over the reins in June, Xabi Alonso is slowly transforming this Real Madrid side in his own mold.
The Merengues made it to the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer and have now started the new campaign on a very positive note, registering four wins in four La Liga matches.
One of the standout performers for Real Madrid since Alonso took over has been midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
The French star is seen as one of the key pillars in the project that the Basque tactician is building at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Tchouameni, for his part, has made it clear that he is enjoying playing under Alonso. The former AS Monaco star recently granted an interview to Telefoot (h/t AS) in France, where he praised the new Real Madrid boss.
“I’ve had the opportunity to have coaches who have empowered me. Xabi is a super coach. At the moment, everything is going well, I hope it continues like this,” said Tchouameni.

Tchouameni also spoke about former Real Madrid manager and club legend Zinedine Zidane, who is in line to take over as the France manager in the near future.
“Honestly, I haven’t spoken to him yet. Possibly in the future (laughs). Who knows,” said the midfielder.
“When you look at what he did as a player and as a coach, he’s achieved everything. He’s a top coach. Whatever decision he makes now, whether it’s for club or country, I’m sure he’ll do well.”
Tchouameni, who made his 150th appearance for Real Madrid this past Saturday, was also asked about club and country teammate Kylian Mbappe and whether he had any advice to give to the forward about winning the UEFA Champions League.
“We all want to win the Champions League. I hope Mbappe wins the first of his career. We’ll all be happy for him if he wins it,” he stated.
Tchouameni, who recently had a stadium named after him at his boyhood club Artigues, was asked about how he would like to be remembered by fans. In response, he said:
“My work ethic. My honesty, my ability to work. I hope people are proud of what I’ve done and what I’ve become. I try to be on my best behavior to set an example for all those people who want to become professional footballers.”
