According to a recent revelation from Defensa Central, it has come to light that Manchester City captain Bernardo offered himself to Real Madrid through his agent.

However, the outlet confirms that despite the player’s quality and experience, club president Florentino Perez has decided against pursuing the opportunity.

The Portuguese international is reportedly planning a new chapter in his career at the end of the current season, when his contract with Manchester City officially expires.

Following the World Cup cycle, he is believed to be keen on leaving Manchester City and testing himself in La Liga.

Contacts through Jorge Mendes

To facilitate this move, his agent Jorge Mendes contacted both Real Madrid and Barcelona to gauge interest.

While Barcelona are said to be open to the idea, Real Madrid’s position is extremely different.

Despite the initial contact, Perez is not convinced that Silva fits into the club’s current project.

As such, the decision is not based on a single factor, but rather a combination of considerations.

Why did that happen?

One of the key concerns is age. Silva is approaching 32, and Real Madrid have increasingly focused on signing younger players who can contribute over a longer period.

Investing in a player at this stage of his career does not really make sense at this moment.

Performance is another factor that has influenced the club’s thinking. His recent displays, particularly against Real Madrid in the Champions League, did not leave a strong enough impression to justify a major move.

Then there is the financial aspect. Silva commands a high salary, and integrating such wages into the current structure would be challenging.

While Real Madrid maintain respect for both Jorge Mendes and Bernardo Silva, they have declined the opportunity to incorporate the Portuguese.
