Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté hasn’t agreed to a contract extension with the Reds yet, fueling rumors about a possible move to PSG or Real Madrid.

Diario AS reports that Real Madrid is interested in signing Konaté this summer but only if Liverpool lowers their price. The Spanish club is said to be willing to offer between €20 million and €25 million, while Liverpool wants at least €50 million.

Real Madrid doesn’t plan to meet that price, especially since Konaté has expressed a clear desire to join them. They’re content to wait until 2026, when he could leave on a free transfer.

Earlier reports from Foot Mercato also say Konaté has been offered to several top clubs, including Real Madrid, PSG, and Barcelona, which could open the door for a move once his contract expires.

L’Equipe reports that Real Madrid have stepped up their interest in signing Konaté and have already opened talks with Liverpool. Meanwhile, Liverpool now know Konaté’s renewal demands and are expected to respond within the next few weeks.

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook recently reported that Konaté has been hesitant to sign a new contract with Liverpool because he’s unhappy with the salary offer. Liverpool are known for tough negotiations, so if Konaté wants to stay, he might have to lower his demands.

At the same time, Liverpool could be preparing for the possibility of losing him. Defensa Central says Liverpool manager Arne Slot has told the club to pursue Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi if Konaté moves to Real Madrid. Like Konaté, Guehi is under contract through June 2026 but isn’t expected to renew.

The report also mentions Guehi is open to joining Liverpool, and the club would likely use the money from Konaté’s sale to fund the transfer. Real Madrid see Konaté as a key piece to strengthen their defense for the 2025-2026 season.
