Real Madrid are said to be moving quickly to activate Denzel Dumfries’s release clause, clearing the way for Inter to pursue Marco Palestra.
The Athletic reports that Madrid plan to push the deal through once Sunday’s presidential election is concluded, removing Inter’s uncertainty over Dumfries before making a move for Atalanta’s winger.
Florentino Perez is understood to have assured incoming Jose Mourinho that a right-back would arrive, with Dumfries viewed as the leading option.
The Dutchman’s €25m clause is valid only for a set window this summer, and personal terms are not thought to be a stumbling block.
Dumfries turned 30 in April and is under contract with Inter until June 2028, having joined from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 for €14.25m.
Despite injuries, he contributed five goals and two assists in 28 matches this season as Inter won the Scudetto and Coppa Italia Double.
If Madrid complete the move, Inter could then assemble funds to meet Atalanta’s €50m valuation of Palestra, with Manchester City, Newcastle United and Arsenal also monitoring the Italy international.
