It ended West Ham 3 Newcastle 1.
A day for Newcastle United fans to forget, or at least try to.
The performance every bit as bad as the result suggests.
As somebody once said, more than a few times, we all now need to dust worselves doon and go again.
To get the positivity flowing again, here are my reasons to be cheerful for Newcastle United fans, after that West Ham 3 Newcastle 1 match:
The final whistle has gone and we don’t have to watch another second of this woeful NUFC performance
After watching that, plenty of Newcastle United members deciding to not bother with the upcoming ballots for home matches, thus increasing my chance of getting tickets.
This performance wasn’t against Sunderland.
If I had done a deal with the devil and Newcastle had to lose one of their last four matches, I would definitely have chosen this one over Benfica in the Champions League and Spurs in the League Cup, plus also marginally better losing this one than Fulham.
Newcastle have won five of their last seven matches.
The reason why this kind of match hurts so much, is because it is so rare these days.
When your team is active in so many competitions, you don’t have to wait very long for the team to have a chance of bouncing back. Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday night in the Champions League.
Quite clearly, this performance hurt the manager at least as much as it did the Newcastle United fans. This is not a case of having a manager (like so many of them previously) who doesn’t care, quite the opposite.
Speaking of which, Eddie Howe won’t be looking to throw any of his players under the bus, or seek to blame whoever or whatever. Instead, the NUFC boss will spend his time ahead of Athletic Bilbao examining everything he could have done differently, as well as how the various players fit into that.
I had a ticket for this match in the West Ham end (along with countless others by the look of it, watch the replays and see how many amongst the home support aren’t celebrating the final three goals in the match!) but in the end couldn’t make it and passed it on to my mate. Sorry Bri!!!
