Referee João Vitor Gobi’s match report from Palmeiras 1-1 Guarani records the dismissals of Guarani head coach Matheus Costa and Palmeiras assistant João Martins, who led the hosts with Abel Ferreira suspended.

According to Globo.com, both were sent off in stoppage time after a dispute sparked by a challenge near the corner, when Guarani players demanded the ball be given back.

The report says Costa first left his technical area and moved towards the Palmeiras bench while shouting profanities, demanding the ball be returned and calling Martins a coward, adopting a confrontational stance.

Martins was then dismissed for replying with expletives, leaving his own technical area and advancing towards the opposing coach in a similar manner.

The document notes the pair were prevented from reaching each other by the officials and other staff. It adds that, in the tunnel, they again acted confrontationally and were restrained by security, information relayed to the referee by assistant Daniel Luis Marques.

After the match, Martins explained his reaction and apologised. He said bench-to-bench respect is expected, argued there was no need to stop play because the opponent was already on his feet, admitted he overstepped and accepted he would face the consequences.
