Former Serie A referees Gianpaolo Calvarese and Graziano Cesari have different views on Romelu Lukaku’s fouls, which, according to Claudio Ranieri, should have resulted in a red card for the Belgian.

Roma coach Ranieri suggested that Lukaku should have been sent off for two bookable offences in the first half of Napoli’s win over the Giallorossi on Sunday.

The Belgian striker had committed fouls on Zeki Çelik and Mile Svilar but received no yellow card, upsetting the Roma boss.

Former Serie A official Calvarese, now a pundit for Amazon Prime Italia and Tuttosport, showed pictures of Lukaku’s fouls on X, formerly Twitter, writing that the Napoli star should have been given his marching orders with two yellow cards.

On the other hand, his former colleague Cesari, a Sport Mediaset referee pundit, argued that Lukaku should have been given just one yellow.

According to Cesari, referee Massa misjudged the foul on Celik, which should have resulted in a yellow card for Lukaku.

As for the foul on Svilar, Cesari described it as ‘dynamics of play’, not worthy of a yellow card.
