Borussia Dortmund fastened their grip on second place in the Bundesliga table with a 2-0 win over FC Augsburg this afternoon. Results going their way elsewhere means BVB have also cut the gap to leader Bayern down to nine points.
Rodrigo Ribeiro was an early threat for the visitors, but it required 13 minutes for BVB to open the scoring. Daniel Svensson fed Maxi Beier on the left to cut the ball across the six yard box for Karim Adeyemi to convert.
Ribeiro came close to profiting from a mistake by Waldemar Anton, however the Portuguese forward couldn't test Gregor Kobel. Nearing the half-hour, Dortmund's lead could have doubled as Beier's strike met the crossbar.
The hosts maintained their pressure, rattling the aluminum again minutes later through Adeyemi. A curling Jobe Bellingham strike the Augsburg keeper again, while Beier ought to have done better on the end of a Ryerson cross.
After the break, the game took some time before it sparked to life. As has been the case so often this season, a set-piece bore fruit again - Julian Ryerson putting a first senior goal on a plate for 18-year-old Luca Reggiani.
Daniel Baum attempted to thrust some energy into his side thereafter with Elvis Rexhbecaj and Anton Kade introduced. A further change in the forward ranks with Michael Gregoritsch still couldn't wrestle control away from BVB.
Niko Kovač's side were dealt a blow when Daniel Svensson hobbled off in place of Fabio Silva. The latter could have added to the score had Adeyemi perhaps been a bit less selfish - instead Dahmen came to Augsburg's rescue.
The Westphalians emptied the bench late on with Yan Couto, Carney Chukwuemeka and Julian Brandt sent on to close out the game. A final excellent parry from Dahmen denied Serhou Guirassy but couldn't prevent defeat for the Bavarians.
