Régis Le Bris says Noah Sadiki should be available for Liverpool’s visit to the Stadium of Light, but Bertrand Traoré and Granit Xhaka remain out.
According to Sunderland Echo, Sadiki is expected to be fit for Wednesday night after he was withdrawn as a precaution in the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal with muscle discomfort. Le Bris indicated the midfielder is fine and should be ready to start.
Xhaka and Traoré will miss the Liverpool game and are not anticipated back in the short term. The pair could be sidelined for the rest of the month with ankle and knee issues respectively.
Traoré has already been out for around a month, with the initial club view that his lay-off would be four to six weeks. Le Bris said recoveries are being guided by symptoms and both players are in a good place, with hopes of positive news in the coming weeks.
He explained Traoré suffered a significant knee injury at the Africa Cup of Nations and played on for his country in the second half. After returning, he was told to rest to protect long-term stability, so Sunderland have not rushed his return. Le Bris added he held no frustration over how the injury occurred.
Looking ahead, Le Bris believes Liverpool are getting better and remain strong despite a few injuries. He praised their manager and said it is a must-win for them once again, calling the test tough and exciting for Sunderland.
