Sunderland face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, with Régis Le Bris weighing major selection calls as the treatment room clears. According to Sunderland Echo, competition for places has sharpened.
Unai Emery's side arrive on a high after booking a Europa League last-four place with a midweek win over Bologna. Sunderland are buoyed by back-to-back victories and the return of key players.
Goalkeeper Robin Roefs made a strong return to the XI last weekend and should keep his place.
At right back, Nordi Mukiele came straight back in last week. His goal took a deflection, but his all-round display underpinned the win and he looks firmly established in the role.
Luke O'Nien is set to continue at centre-back. Dan Ballard is back available, but O'Nien's form means there is little incentive to take a risk, and Le Bris heavily hinted in his pre-match briefing that he would keep faith with the club stalwart.
Omar Alderete has been outstanding in recent weeks and remains an integral part of the XI, in and out of possession.
