Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan have received a major boost in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
According to FCInterNews, Spurs boss Igor Tudor has decided to bench the former Empoli man after last night’s rout in Madrid.
Tottenham suffered an embarrassing 5-2 defeat at Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Despite starting on the bench, Guglielmo Vicario replaced Antonin Kinsky after just 17 minutes.
However, the struggling Premier League giants were already three goals down.
Furthermore, they conceded two more goals after Vicario’s introduction and are now on the verge of exiting Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
Meanwhile, Tudor has reportedly decided to bench the 29-year-old for the rest of the season.
It’s no secret that Vicario has grown frustrated with Tottenham’s disappointing results and that he wants to return to Serie A.
On the other hand, Cristian Chivu’s men have identified the Italian star as an ideal replacement for the outgoing Yann Sommer.
With Tudor set to sideline Vicario from his project, Inter could intensify their efforts to lure the experienced goalkeeper back to Serie A this summer.
