It is all change at Stamford Bridge following Enzo Maresca’s exit
Robert Sanchez appears to have confirmed further Chelsea depatures after the surprise exit of Enzo Maresca.
On New Year’s Day it was announced that Maresca had left Chelsea after 18 months in charge, with Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior emerging as the front-runner to replace the Italian tactian.
Maresca led the Blues to Champions League qualification in his first season in charge, adding to that with success in the Conference League and Club World Cup.
However, following an alarming slump in form which resulted in crisis talks with the Chelsea board, the decision was made to part ways to give the team “the best chance of getting the season back on track”.
In Chelsea’s official statement regarding Maresca’s exit, only the head coach was confirmed to have departed Stamford Bridge.
Although, it would appear that Sanchez has confirmed several members of the Italian’s backroom staff - including Willy Cabellero - have also left.
Taking to Instagram, the goalkeeper posted: “Thank you for everything Enzo, Mickey, Willy, Dani, Marcos and Robi. Very grateful for the trust and the memories we shared, those will live with me forever.
“Wishing you all the best for the future , will miss you all.”
Chelsea are expected to move swiftly to appoint a new head coach.
Rosenior is the leading candidate to take over from Maresca but Standard Sport understands there are a small number of other candidates under consideration.
In the meantime, Chelsea’s Under-21s manager Calum McFarlane will take the pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Manchester City.
McFarlane is then expected to lead the Blues at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, though the club are yet to confirm their interim coaching staff.
