Manchester City midfielder Rodri has remained noncommittal on his future with the club, hinting that it could lie elsewhere.

The 29-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal at the Etihad. It means the Ballon D’Or-winning midfielder could potentially leave for free in 12 months time.

“I understand there might be some noise,” Rodri told the Spanish press at a media day. “But for me I’m obviously going to focus on the World Cup.

“I’m not going to dedicate my time to that, and then after the World Cup let’s see.”

The 29-year-old’s answer lacks certainty and will do little to ease concerns that he could follow Guardiola out the door at the Etihad.

Real Madrid have made no secret of their long-term admiration for Rodri, viewing him as a dream signing. The midfielder has also played his part in fuelling speculation that he could return home to the Spanish Capital.

Back in March, also whilst on international duty, Rodri admitted that he wants to return to Spain before retiring. Despite formerly playing for Atletico Madrid, he also made it clear that he would not rule out a move to Real Madrid.

“For me, you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world,” he commented back in March. “They have a fanbase that really goes all out for them, and for me, the Bernabeu is always incredible, a stadium that’s very imposing.

“I have one year left on my contract, there will come a point when we’ll have to sit down and talk.”
