Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is on the transfer market this summer as they look to streamline their squad for manager Xabi Alonso.
The Blues are set to demand €20 million for his services, with the player poised to leave Stamford Bridge after three years.
According to Foot Mercato, Roma have made enquiries for the Chelsea star and also contacted his representatives over a deal.
Disasi may not have worked out for Chelsea but might enjoy a new lease of life in the Italian capital.
He joined the West London outfit in 2023 but struggled to make his mark in blue.
His reading of the game was found wanting, and the lack of spatial awareness was downright frustrating.
While Disasi is a physical specimen, his overall game can be error-strewn, which is why Chelsea sent him out on loan to West Ham United.
He enjoyed a renaissance there. He was hailed as a ‘machine’, but his performances weren’t enough to keep the club up.
Now, the 28-year-old needs a new stomping ground, and the Romans could provide the right environment for him.
Chelsea’s willingness to cash in on Disasi is another clear sign that a defensive overhaul is gathering pace under Alonso.
The Blues are determined to reshape the back line before the transfer window closes and have already identified replacements.
Veteran England international John Stones has emerged as a serious target, with Chelsea hoping to take advantage of his availability as a free agent.
Meanwhile, the club are also pushing to sign Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix after tracking his progress closely.
Both players would offer qualities Chelsea’s defence lacked last season, with Stones bringing composure and elite experience, while Lacroix would add pace, aggression and athleticism.
If the pair arrive, Disasi’s departure will represent just the beginning of a major rebuild at the heart of Chelsea’s defence.
