Serie A clashes with Roma and Juventus will pose the true test of Inter Milan’s Serie A title credentials after an unconvincing start to the season.

Inter’s start to the season has hardly been a disastrous one.

The Nerazzurri have dropped a total of seven points in their seven matches prior to the October international break. There is plenty of time to make that up.

But that’s also not title-winning form by any stretch.

Inter will know full well that they need to find another gear if they’re to replicate last season’s relentless march to the title.

The real problem for Inter has been the defensive record.

In attack, the Nerazzurri have actually scored more goals than any other team. But in defense, they have conceded at a rate of more than once goal per game, with just two clean sheets so far.

There have been a lot of reasons why Inter haven’t quite found the same balance as last season.

It’s been tough for the team to find its optimum physical condition and match-sharpness after a preseason that was greatly shortened by the late returns of numerous players from international tournaments.

But that’s something that Inter will have to shake off now.

And the Nerazzurri’s next two Serie A fixtures will pit them against tough opposition.

This evening, Inter take on Roma. The Giallorossi may not have had the best of starts to the campaign, but are always formidable opposition.

And then next weekend, it’s the Derby d’Italia against Juventus. The Bianconeri already look set to be one of Inter’s main rivals for the title.

Inter will know that the kinds of performances that saw them secure 3-2 wins over Udinese and Torino won’t be enough in these next two matches.

The Nerazzurri need to respond to the challenge by putting in title-worthy displays.
