Roma and Lazio had to wait long for their maiden meeting of the season, but the Derby della Capitale is finally upon us.
The Serie A clash between Roma and Lazio kicks off at 20:45 local time on Sunday, January 5th at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

It has been an utterly chaotic first half of the season for Roma, even by their own standards. Daniele De Rossi was sacked in September, and his replacement Ivan Juric suffered the same fate two months later, with Claudio Ranieri returning a third spell in an attempt to steady the ship.
While the Giallorossi are beginning to show some improvements with the Tinkerman in charge, as evidenced by the large results registered against Lecce (4-1), Braga (3-0) and Parma (5-0), it hasn’t been all roses for the veteran tactician who endured a shocking defeat to Como not so long ago. Roma currently sit 10th in the table after earning a draw at San Siro in their last outing which cost Paulo Fonseca his job at Milan.
Although the league standings are seldom a factor in the Roman Derby, Lazio currently sit 4th in the Serie A table after garnering 15 points more than their crosstown rivals. The Biancocelesti enjoyed a splendid first of the season, but they haven’t been able to earn wins against the big boys in the league, with Napoli being the solitary exception.
Marco Baroni’s men settled for draws with Milan and Atalanta (in their last outing) while falling short against Fiorentina, Juventus, and more famously Inter Milan. Therefore, the Aquile will be determined to come out on top, aware that what is panning out to be a memorable campaign for the club would be incomplete without a Derby della Capitale victory.
