Rotherham United have confirmed the loan capture of Leeds United youngster Harry Gray, the younger brother of Tottenham star Archie - and it's quite a big deal for Matt Hamshaw's side.

The Millers are struggling in League One and sit in the relegation zone following their 2-0 defeat to Peterborough United on New Year's Day,

Hamshaw would had hoped that their EFL Trophy clash with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday would offer them some respite from their poor league form. However, Rotherham were instead beaten 3-0 by the Terriers, thanks to goals from Will Alves, Lasse Sorensen, and Cameron Ashia to knock their confidence a bit more.

Harry Gray concern raised ahead of Rotherham United loan move

Rotherham are desperate for reinforcements to arrive at the New York Stadium, and at the top end of the pitch, they've added a highly-rated starlet in the form of Harry Gray.

Gray boasts an impressive goal-scoring record at Under-21 level for Leeds, but his only senior appearance in a competitive match for the West Yorkshire club arrived in last season's Championship win over Stoke City.

Meanwhile, Gray has joined Rotherham on loan from the Whites as the New York Stadium club try to stave off the threat of relegation to League Two.

With the 17-year-old's immediate future in mind, Football League World asked our Millers fan pundit, Tom Eyre, if his club's move for the teenager is too much of a gamble when so much is at stake - and whilst he's professed that it is, it is claimed that it would not be fair if all the hopes of Rotherham's survival in League One were being pinned on the young striker.

Eyre told FLW: "This is a massive, massive gamble. I'm not against it. I think that Rotherham need something desperate, efficient, and quick. Harry Gray scored so many goals at Under-21 level, so many that he got a debut for Leeds at the age of 16.

"He's only 17 now, so he's still got a lot of development to do. The English leagues are super physical. League One is super physical. But from what his brother (Archie) said, he says that he's better than him, and Archie managed to do well as an 18-year-old in the Championship.

"He'll get battered, he'll get bruised. But if he's got the pace, if he's got the finishing, I can see him being a hit. Rotherham are crying out for a striker who can stay fit, for a start, so at 17, he might be able to do that a bit better.

"Also, (he is) someone to run the channels, someone to press and be enthusiastic and energetic. That's what you get with a young kid.

"Although 17 is super young. I think it's very hard to deem him as the answer to Rotherham's problems, because it's not fair at all on the kid.

"He comes in with no expectations, and I'm hoping for the best for him."

Rotherham United swoop for Leeds starlet Harry Gray could go either way

Gray is a talented youngster, as was demonstrated when he played for Leeds in their Championship clash with Stoke last term, before featuring in friendlies against Manchester United and AC Milan last summer.

However, as alluded to by Eyre, League One is a heavily physical league, which could be a particularly challenging environment for a teenager with limited senior experience.

Furthermore, the Millers need Gray to hit the ground running, as a continuation of their poor form could see them get relegated to League Two.

He could make his debut for Hamshaw's side against Stockport County this Saturday, and with Sam Nombe's fitness once more called into question, a fresh set of legs at the top end of the pitch has been desperately needed - there will be pressure from fans though, given his reputation, to make an immediate impact, and that is why this deal could go either way.
