Ruben Amorim warns Manchester United fans after first disappointing result

Manchester United fans will rally behind Ruben Amorim like they’ve done with all previous managers.

Whatever people say on social media or fan channels on YouTube, the views aired at matches is often very different in being more supportive to the team and the manager (now head coach).

You could already hear it in the stands at Portman Road on Sunday when United hung on for a draw against Ipswich Town. It wasn’t the result Amorim or the fans wanted after his first game, but he acknowledged their support at full-time.

Like the team, with hardly any time to prepare for the game, United fans kept their first Amorim chant simple, using just two words: “Ruben Amorim, Amorim, Ruben Amorim” to the tune of KC and the Sunshine Band’s ‘Give it Up’.

Frustrating result but Ruben Amorim deserves patience

United opened the scoring after two minutes through Marcus Rashford, but were unable to secure three points after conceding before the break. A deflected shot from Omari Hutchinson sent the ball over Andre Onana’s hand. The Cameroonian keeper still managed to put in a man of the match display after two fine saves to deny Liam Delap in both halves.

Expectations have been low after a slow start to the season, with Erik ten Hag leaving the club in the bottom half of the Premier League. Amorim was unable to take us out of that hut at the weekend, but he has warned fans we must suffer before things pick up.

“I know it is frustrating for the fans but we are changing so much in this moment with a lot of games,” Amorim said in his post-match interview, as per BBC Sport.

“We are going to suffer for a long period. We will try to win games but this will take time.

“We have to risk it a little bit [now] and in the next year we will be better [otherwise] next year at the same stage we will be here with the same problems.”

Amorim is trying to introduce his new ideas to the team and nobody knows how long that is going to take. He notes that this may frustrate fans but he feels delaying the inevitable is counter-productive as we’ve seen under previous managers.

Personally, I think the players will appreciate the honesty Amorim is shown and the fans will understand it.

Some managers ask for three years to implement their ideas but Amorim knows he hasn’t got that time to prove himself. Ten Hag and the other managers that have come after Sir Alex Ferguson were all sacked for not getting results.
