Rui Costa outlines sole condition for Marcos Antônio to join Flamengo from São Paulo | OneFootball

São Paulo director Rui Costa says Flamengo can only sign Marcos Antônio by agreeing a deal with São Paulo.

"Marcos Antônio is a São Paulo player. There is no possibility of Flamengo signing him without speaking to São Paulo. This is something we have guaranteed since last year. It is important that São Paulo fans know that, at the end of Marcos' loan, there was already interest from other clubs," he told UOL.

Flamengo held talks with Marcos Antônio during this window and received the player’s approval to open negotiations with São Paulo. The club did not accept selling the midfielder at any point.

Flamengo were willing to lend Allan to São Paulo until the end of the season to bring in Marcos Antônio this year. São Paulo again rejected the offer and kept the player available to Hernán Crespo.

Allan has instead joined Corinthians on loan. Flamengo’s midfield options are De La Cruz, Jorginho, Pulgar, Saúl and Evertton Araújo, with Jorginho and Saúl not available to Filipe Luís at present as they recover from injury.
