Saint-Étienne captain and goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur is out until April after a muscle issue suffered during a clearance in the Red Star match, which finished 2-0.

According to L'Équipe, he will miss at least the next two matches, with the aim of a return after the international break. He is unavailable for Saturday's trip to Grenoble at 20:00.

Brice Maubleu, 36, a former Grenoble player from the age of 14 and Saint-Étienne's number two who has featured only in two Coupe de France ties this season, will take his place at the Stade des Alpes.

Head coach Philippe Montanier, who has five wins from five matches, said Maubleu’s role is decisive, praising his values, exemplary training habits and guidance of younger team-mates. He added that Maubleu will have his family in the stands.

Despite a five-point cushion over fifth in Ligue 2, injuries are mounting and few players are returning for now. Midfielder Florian Tardieu faces a lengthy spell out with a calf problem, while Chico Lamba should get minutes with the reserves at home to Dijon on Sunday at 15:00.
