São Paulo prosecutors have filed charges against four figures linked to Corinthians over cash withdrawals exceeding R$ 3.4 million. The alleged diversion covers March 2018 to 2023.
According to Blog do Macedo, those charged are João Odair de Souza, known as Caveira, a driver and security aide to Andrés Sanchez and later a security consultant to Duilio Monteiro Alves, former finance manager Roberto Gavioli, and ex-finance directors Matias Antonio Romano de Ávila and Wesley Lúcio Cavalcante Melo.
Prosecutors estimate R$ 3,472,485.72 was diverted, rising to about R$ 7.3 million with inflation. They say advances to Caveira lacked contracts, invoices or valid receipts, and they seek reimbursement to the club.
The former directors are also accused of misappropriation and qualified omission for failing to demand accounts or block irregular payments, a stance described as deliberate blindness. Promoter Cassio Roberto Conserino says Gavioli ignored spending on security, while Matias and Wesley left oversight in his hands.
The prosecution asks that the three ex-directors pay moral damages equal to 75% of material losses, around R$ 2.6 million plus inflation. It also requests asset freezes, the lifting of banking and tax secrecy, and an accounting review.
Ex-presidents Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves are not named in the complaint at this stage, though Conserino says both remain under investigation given their proximity to Caveira. Separately, they are defendants over alleged misuse of the club’s corporate card, and the ethics committee has recommended Andrés be expelled as a member.
