Well done to Scotland who qualified for their first World Cup finals in 28 long years, with our very own Kieran Tierney having a pivotal role in the win by scoring a splendid effort deep into injury time to send Scotland to the USA/Canada/Mexico next summer.

It was a game that had everything, and three of the Scotland goals including KT’s were that of the world class variety, a term that clearly doesn’t get used alongside the Scotland national side on a regular basis!

But whilst it was a dream moment for Kieran, one he will never ever forget, it was one of nightmare proportions for KT’s club teammate Kasper Schmeichel.

The Celtic number one looked suspect for Lawrence Shankland’s effort that made it 2-1, and he was horribly caught static by Kenny McLeans sublime clincher from the half way line with literally the last kick of the ball.

Kasper has been doubted on a number of occasions by the Celtic support this season, and last night’s performance won’t have done anything to ease those concerns. He was always going to be the first pick at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, and Martin O’Neill sees no reason to change his goalkeeper in his short but sweet spell in charge at Celtic as he rolls back the clock 25 years to re-ignite his enthusiasm for managing Celtic.

But Martin is only holding the fort and a new manager will be appointment imminently with that almost certainly going to be Frenchman Wilfried Nancy. He will clearly have his own ideas about who wears the gloves and will look at Schmeichel, Sinisalo and Doohan as a starting point but may actually want to bring in his own keeper.

Kasper spoke this week about his he has been living in Scotland away from his family during his time at Celtic as his wife and kids remain in Denmark where the weans have exams to get through in secondary school. He has scheduled in talks with Celtic for February or March to discuss options for expending his contract for another season. March of course will be the time Denmark play in the World Cup play-offs and you have to wonder if he’s still have the gloves for the national team at that point.

So well done KT, you made us all proud, last night and given all that you have come through that magical moment was so well deserved.  Commiserations  to Kasper, it sure will be interesting when both players rejoin Celtic training at Lennoxtown tomorrow but I’m sure that they had a wee hug and a friendly chat at Hampden on a night of glory for Scotland.

Shame that there had to be a sour note, and that was the disgraceful ongoing booing of Kasper from large sections of the Scotland support. I wonder why that happened?
