FC Bayern took a big step towards the Champions League semi-finals with a 2-1 win at Real Madrid – and once again showed just how much individual class they possess. Michael Olise was at the heart of the action, delivering an outstanding performance at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and astonishing the international soccer world
The Frenchman not only played a decisive role in the victory with his assist for Harry Kane’s 2-0 goal, but also shaped Bayern’s attacking play throughout the game. With his creativity, dynamism and unpredictability, he repeatedly posed major problems for the Whites‘ defense
The fact that Olise has long since arrived on the big stage was also evident in the reactions after the game, with international pundits and the media lavishing praise on him – and one voice in particular stood out: Thierry Henry
The former world-class striker, who now works as a pundit for CBS Sports, was deeply impressed by the Bayern star’s performance and went far beyond mere praise. Henry provided a detailed analysis of what makes Olise so special
„Michael is not like other players, he may be shy when you put a microphone in his hand, but he has a specific way of thinking, a specific view of life and a vision of the game to match,“ Henry explained
The Frenchman particularly highlighted Olise’s exceptional game intelligence: „When he gets the ball, he sees things that few others can. He perceives the game differently; he sees it more with his brain than with his eyes. He tries to imagine what might happen as soon as the ball leaves the goalkeeper. You have to anticipate what’s coming next.“

It is precisely this ability that makes Olise one of the most dangerous attacking players in European soccer at the moment. His actions are difficult to predict, his decisions in the final third often surprising – and that is precisely where his strength lies
Henry, who himself played at world-class level for many years, knows exactly what is important for attacking players. This makes his words all the more meaningful. At the same time, he emphasised that Olise’s personality off the pitch is not always easy to grasp without being critical: „We all know that he can dribble. He has his own view of the game and life. That’s why people sometimes don’t understand him off the pitch. But he’s a pleasant guy, a great guy.“
Olise has long since become a key player for FC Bayern. His performance in Madrid was not only further proof of his exceptional quality, but also a clear signal to the competition. The Frenchman is on his way to establishing himself permanently among the absolute best in the world – and could yet become a decisive factor for Munich as the Champions League progresses.
