Seville is already pulsing with Real Sociedad’s support, two days before the Copa del Rey final at La Cartuja. The Triana bridge carries the txuri-urdin flag and local peñas are preparing to welcome fellow supporters.
Fans are arriving by car, motorhome, plane and even bicycle. According to Diario Vasco, all allocations have gone, with 26,292 club seats and thousands more via the RFEF.
Peña Nazarena and Peña El Sur are stepping up as hosts. Member Manuel López anticipated an impressive weekend after the pandemic-hit final that left empty streets.
Zaragoza-born Victoria Morán follows Real through her husband, while Manu joked he feels feverish when they lose and recalled ending up with an Arconada shirt as a child. Youngster Víctor Serrano keeps the blanquiazul faith at school, his father quipping that height spared him a few knocks.
Serrano, his father José Juan and Manuel have tickets, while Victoria missed out in the peña ballot. José Juan stayed upbeat despite Atlético de Madrid’s win over Barcelona, suggesting European exertions could tell and hoping Real lift the Cup as in 2021.
Joy is tempered by the death of founder Juantxo Romero, 45, from Pasaia, who lived in Seville and died on Palm Sunday after a short illness, having hoped to reach La Cartuja. His widow Sandra plans to carry the banner, with the peña’s blue-and-white latxa sheep to be displayed in tribute to Juantxo and all those absent.
