Southampton earned a point at St Andrew’s as the bench combined to salvage a 1-1 draw against Birmingham City.

Tonda Eckert left Léo Scienza out and started Jay Robinson, with Finn Azaz on the left and Robinson on the right. According to Sainstmarching.com, the first half was even in possession but Birmingham created the clearer openings. Both sides tested the goalkeeper twice before Paik Seung-Ho clipped the top of the bar from a free-kick just before the break.

The hosts went ahead after the restart when a loose pass from Taylor Harwood-Bellis put Caspar Jander under pressure and he conceded a foul. Southampton failed to clear the set piece and Phil Neumann looped a header over Gavin Bazunu and in off the underside of the bar.

Saints levelled when three substitutes combined, Cameron Bragg slid in Elias Jelert, whose cross allowed Cameron Archer to finish from close range. That strike secured a 1-1 result.

Bazunu was named player of the match for a composed display. Harwood-Bellis and Nathan Wood had mixed evenings, while Jelert impressed from the bench, with Archer and Bragg also influential. Scienza later featured.
