Southampton have made a counter-offer to Everton as talks continue over a summer transfer deal for Tyler Dibling, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
Everton have had all their bids for the England youth international attacker rejected as they look to lure him to the club, with the latest worth in the region of £40 million.
The Saints have now come back with a proposal of £45m plus £5m in easily achievable bonuses and a 25 percent sell-on clause, but the Toffees are unwilling to meet their demands.
Everton have since informed Southampton of their intention to focus on other targets unless the asking price is reduced.
However, the relegated club have no plans to do that as they insist the 19-year-old attacker is the best young English player on the market.
They are eyeing an instant return to the Premier League and are convinced that Dibling could play a significant role in helping them seal promotion if they hold on to him.
The Merseyside club will need to look elsewhere for the attacker that manager David Moyes wants. They need to do that as soon as possible as the summer transfer window enters its final four weeks.
Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich were also keen on Dibling, but Everton came closest to getting a deal done.
The teenage sensation was also open to joining them, but he will most likely be spending 2025-26 with the Saints in the Championship.
Dibling has two years remaining on his contract and would love to continue playing in the Premier League after impressing last term.
