Spanish government approves Barcelona’s bid to host Champions League final at Camp Nou in 2029 | OneFootball

With most domestic campaigns already done and dusted, all eyes will be on the upcoming Champions League final this weekend, as Paris Saint-Germain take on Arsenal.

While this edition of the UCL final takes place in Budapest, Barcelona are hopeful of hosting the revered final at their own home ground in 2029.

Barça’s hopes of hosting the UCL final in Camp Nou in 2029 received a major boost today from the Spanish government.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish government has officially lent its support to Barcelona’s bid for the 2029 UCL final in Camp Nou.

The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of Education and Sport Minister Milagros Tolon and at the request of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, approved Barça’s bid.

In the same motion, the government also backed Bilbao’s bid to host the 2028 Women’s Champions League final at San Mames.

The government highlighted the sporting, economic, tourism and social impact of hosting competitions of this magnitude as key reasons behind their support.

Barcelona’s bid is given additional context by the fact that the Metropolitano stadium in Madrid is set to host the Champions League final in the 2026-27 season.

This gives Spain a recent precedent as a host nation heading into the 2029 bidding process.

For Barcelona, hosting the final at a fully completed Spotify Camp Nou would represent the perfect stage to showcase their renovated stadium to the world, fulfilling one of Joan Laporta’s plans since being re-elected as the club president.
