Sporting Lisbon 4-1 Nottingham Forest: Player ratings as McAtee and Jesus impress | OneFootball

Nottingham Forest signed off their 12-day stay in Portugal with a 4-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon at the Estadio Algarve, their first setback of pre-season. Nottingham Post provided player ratings from the friendly.

Earlier in the day a Reds side beat Portimonense SAD 2-1 behind closed doors, Taiwo Awoniyi and Xaver Schlager on the scoresheet. In the evening fixture, Forest struck after two minutes when Morgan Gibbs-White released Chris Wood and Igor Jesus converted after the striker’s effort was parried.

Matz Sels saved from Rodrigo Zalazar, then from Goncalo Inacio, but from the resulting corner Inacio climbed above Wood to level on 14 minutes. Set-pieces remained Sporting’s clearest route before the break, though Forest produced some slick play of their own.

After half-time Wood had chances to restore the lead, a shot from a corner was blocked, he headed a Neco Williams cross wide and could not finish from a tight angle after closing down the goalkeeper. Sels denied Fotis Ioannidis before the hour, yet Issa Doumbia struck in the 61st minute and Rafael Nel looped a header in four minutes later.

Nel added his second late on to seal it. James McAtee and Jesus were rated 8/10, with Nikola Milenkovic, Williams, Nicolas Dominguez and Gibbs-White on 7. Zach Abbott received 5, while Sels, Ola Aina, Jair Cunha and Wood were each given 6.
