FC Barcelona have not been in the best financial shape in recent times. This has put even more spotlight on the players they have signed for big money, given how difficult things have been in general.

This is one of the main reasons so much criticism came Raphinha’s way in his first couple of seasons at the club following his move from Leeds United. Eventually, he overcame it and has now become a fan favourite.

Dani Olmo is going through a similar phase at Barcelona. He was signed last summer after Hansi Flick’s arrival, and injury issues have been a constant during his time here. He showcased incredible quality early last season, but his form has withered since.

Olmo is experiencing a difficult moment, but he put in a promising performance against Celta Vigo in a deeper role just before the international break. According to Mundo Deportivo, the 27-year-old built on that momentum and put on a show for Spain against Turkiye in the 2-2 draw.

Olmo started very well, playing on the left wing rather than his usual no. 10 position. He cut inside alongside an overlapping Marc Cucurella and showed excellent technique to take his goal just minutes into the game.

Having been rested for the entirety of the Georgia game, last night was evidence of how good Olmo can be when in the zone. Barcelona and Hansi Flick will be hoping he can carry this form and be decisive in the coming weeks and months for the club.
