Sunderland and Celtic ‘to battle’ for Serie A defender Antonino Gallo | OneFootball

Sunderland and Celtic are weighing moves for Lecce left-back Antonino Gallo, Football Insider reports.

The 26-year-old has impressed for the Serie A club this season. Predominantly a left-back, he joined from Virtus Francavilla in 2020 and has become a regular.

Gallo has made 175 first-team appearances, scoring one goal and providing 10 assists across all competitions.

Sunderland could target him as a replacement for Arthur Masuaku, who joined RC Lens on loan this week, though Regis Le Bris still has Reinildo Mandava and Dennis Cirkin on the left.

Trai Hume has also filled in on that flank this season, while Lutsharel Geertruida and Luke O’Nien could offer further cover if required.

Celtic, managed by former Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill, are said to be seeking back-up for Kieran Tierney amid Marcelo Saracchi’s injury-hit loan in Glasgow.
