Sunderland have denied claims they opened talks over a £40million move for AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun.
According to Sunderland Echo, club sources insist the reports are inaccurate and that no discussions have taken place.
Their stance is that there are no active negotiations for Balogun. Sunderland are assessing several targets as Régis Le Bris and the recruitment team shape the squad for the new campaign.
The fee floated would have been among the biggest in the club’s history, which helped drive supporter interest in the speculation.
As things stand there is no substance to suggestions of talks. Sunderland are expected to remain busy before the deadline as they prepare for the added demands of European football, and the club will invest when the right player and deal align.
