Trai Hume’s 17th-minute own goal started a Forest riot as Chris Wood, Morgan Gibbs-White, Igor Jesus and Elliot Anderson all got on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Sunderland player ratings v Nottingham Forest

Starting XI

Robin Roefs – 4/10

That’s nine times in the past two games that Roefs has picked the ball out of his net. His poor pass was picked off by Chris Wood just past the hour mark that started the six-minute collapse.

Nordi Mukiele– 6/10

Moved further upfield for the second-half and almost scored from Xhaka’s cross. However, it was the momentum from that shot that led him to foul Sels and Ballard’s goal being ruled out.

Dan Ballard – 5/10

Almost got on the scoresheet if it was not for the intervention of VAR. Was not directly at fault for the poor defensive performance but as a leader of the back-line, it is hard to give him anything more than five.

Omar Alderete – 4/10

Numerous misplaced passes in the first half that put unnecessary pressure on the defence. A poor showing from a normally reliable defender.

Trai Hume – 5/10

Scorer of the own goal as Jesus’ header hit him on the back of the head. Questions will be asked about his positioning that allowed for the ball to hit him.

Granit Xhaka – 6/10

Created Sunderland’s ruled out goal with a good set-piece delivery. A 90% success rate on passes throughout the game but did not affect it the way he would have liked. There was a flash of the Arsenal Xhaka when he was booked for dissent in the second-half.

Noah Sadiki – 4/10

Sadiki’s saving grace was that he was heavily involved throughout. His engine is an asset to any team but was technically poor tonight.

Habib Diarra – 4/10

Only managed 31 touches in the game. Put his body around but did not put in the performance that has become to be expected of him on Wearside. Was dragged off after 65 minutes and looked like he could not get off the pitch faster.

Chris Rigg – 5/10

Only managed 18 touches in the 45 minutes he was on the pitch.

Enzo Le Fée – 6/10

The best of a bad bunch. Had a strong effort saved in the second-half and gave Rigg a good chance in the opening stages of the game.

Brian Brobbey – 6/10

Put his body around but didn’t make it as hard as he would have wanted to for the visiting defence.

Substitutes

Reinildo – 5/10

A better option at left-back in the second-half but was far from great. Did his job competently.

Wilson Isidor – 5/10

Failed to make an imapact when he come on after 65 minutes, had one tame shot on target.
