Sunderland sign Thomas Meunier on free and assess strongest XI | OneFootball

Sunderland have signed Belgium defender Thomas Meunier on a free transfer, their first addition of the summer window. The 34-year-old strengthens a squad bound for the Europa League.

According to Sunderland Echo, Meunier has agreed a two-year deal following Belgium’s run to this summer’s World Cup finals last 16, which ended in a 2-1 defeat to Spain. He became a free agent earlier this month after leaving Lille.

He is eager to begin a new chapter on Wearside and views the Premier League as a challenge he has long wanted to experience. Talks left him impressed by the club’s ambition and project, and competing in Europe was a major factor in his decision.
