Sunderland transfer round-up: £25m Celtic link and Rennes ‘to push’ for Mayenda | OneFootball

Sunderland’s transfer picture features interest in Celtic midfielder Arne Engels and Rennes reported to be pushing for striker Eliezer Mayenda.

Sunderland Echo understands Mayenda wants to leave this summer for more regular football, although he is under contract until 2030, which strengthens the club’s position.

Sunderland are credited with interest in 22-year-old Engels, who has four Belgium caps and a Celtic deal to 2028. Nottingham Forest are said to have had bids up to £25m rejected in January and are believed to remain keen, with Fulham also in the mix despite being without a head coach after Marco Silva’s departure.

Foot Mercato reports that Rennes have identified Mayenda as a summer target and are making a strong push to sign him, which could offer a route back to French football.

Elsewhere, The Northern Echo says Alan Browne will not return to Middlesbrough after his loan, and he has rejoined the Stadium of Light squad with an exit still expected this summer.

Harrison Jones has joined Peterborough United, ending his long association with Sunderland.
