Sunderland’s transfer picture has sharpened, with links to Celtic midfielder Arne Engels and a potential move around Eliezer Mayenda. Foot Mercato reports that Rennes are making a strong push to sign the striker.
Sunderland are credited with interest in Engels, aged 22, who has four Belgium caps and is under contract at Celtic until 2028. Nottingham Forest and Fulham are also said to be keen.
Forest reportedly had several January bids rejected, the last worth £25m, and are believed to remain keen amid Manchester City’s pursuit of Elliot Anderson and potential midfield needs. Fulham are also said to be in the mix despite being without a head coach following Marco Silva’s exit.
It is understood Mayenda wants to leave this summer for more regular football. He is contracted until 2030, leaving Sunderland well placed in talks, while Rennes’ interest could offer a route back to France.
Simon Adingra is set to return to Wearside, with Monaco not expected to take up the permanent option in his loan. The winger scored one and assisted one in 15 appearances before heading to Ligue 1 mid-season.
Harrison Jones has completed his move to Peterborough United, ending a long association with Sunderland. Alan Browne has returned to the Stadium of Light after his loan at Middlesbrough, and he is still expected to depart this summer.
