Sunderland v Spurs team and injury news as De Zerbi takes charge

Sunderland return to Premier League action on Sunday when Spurs visit the Stadium of Light, 2pm kick-off. The match matters for the Black Cats after their stunning Tyne-Wear derby comeback, as they aim to underline top-ten credentials. For Spurs the stakes are higher, they need points to move away from the relegation zone and Roberto De Zerbi takes charge for the first time since replacing Igor Tudor.

As reported by Sunderland Echo, both Le Bris and De Zerbi issued updates in Friday afternoon press conferences. After an extra three weeks, Reinildo, Enzo Le Fee and Nordi Mukiele are expected to play a bigger part for the hosts, while Conor Gallagher, Joao Palinha and Lucas Bergvall should be able to feature significantly for Spurs following injury recovery.

Guglielmo Vicario is out after surgery on a pre-existing hernia during the break. He is expected back this month but Sunday comes too soon. As a result, Antonin Kinsky looks set to make his first appearance since being withdrawn in the first half of the first leg defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Mathys Tel is available. He picked up an injury in the defeat to Nottingham Forest before the break but has been pictured in training recently.

Dan Ballard remains out with a hamstring issue. He missed the Tyne-Wear derby and Northern Ireland's play-off defeat to Italy, and though close to a return he will not feature on Sunday.

Robin Roefs is available after hamstring trouble. The derby came too soon, but after around five weeks of recovery and training this week, he is in contention.
