Sunderland face seven Premier League games after the international break as they chase a top-half finish and perhaps Europe. According to Sunderland Echo, this is the assessment of their run-in and the opposition form.
12 April, Sunderland v Tottenham, LLLDL, 17th. Spurs are sliding, Robert De Zeri’s arrival could help or hinder. Richarlison has nine and set-pieces threaten, though an early goal could rattle them. Prediction: 3-1.
19 April, Aston Villa v Sunderland, DLLLW, fourth. Villa’s home strength, 32 of 54 points, contrasts with Sunderland’s four away wins. Ollie Watkins ended his drought. Prediction: 2-0.
24 April, Sunderland v Nottingham Forest, LLDDW, 16th. Forest were boosted by a 3-0 at Tottenham and face Villa and Burnley first. Morgan Gibbs-White is the key threat. Prediction: 2-0.
02 May, Wolves v Sunderland, DLWWD, 20th. Wolves have rallied and Adam Armstrong scored at Brentford before the break. A draw feels likely. Prediction: 1-1.
09 May, Sunderland v Manchester United, WWLWD, third. Michael Carrick’s side brim with pace, so Sunderland must be compact. Mbeumo, Cunha, Fernandes and super-sub Sesko could swing it. Prediction: 1-2.
17 May, Everton v Sunderland, LWWLW, eighth. Sunderland won on penalties at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but Everton look like European contenders, with eight in their last four. Prediction: 2-0.
24 May, Sunderland v Chelsea, DLWLL, sixth. A high-stakes finale after a switch from Enzo Maresca to Liam Rosenior. If Sunderland frustrate, the crowd could help, but Cole Palmer is the threat. Prediction: 1-1.
