Sven Botman has undergone surgery on a facial fracture after a collision with Sunderland forward Brian Brobbey in the Tyne-Wear derby. He faces a spell out, though he is expected to be back in the closing weeks of the campaign.
The club said in a statement that the operation was successful and that he was substituted under concussion protocol during the second half at St James' Park.

The defender left the field in the 55th minute of Sunday's defeat.
The derby setback added to a bruising week for Newcastle, who were beaten 7-2 by Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
Confirmation arrived on Monday afternoon, and the Dutchman was wished a swift recovery.
