The Blues opted against bringing in a new keeper despite having the option to sign Mike Maignan, as they weren’t prepared to meet AC Milan’s valuation.
Chelsea also decided not to replace Levi Colwill, who suffered an ACL injury before the start of the season, a decision they’ve certainly paid the price for over the course of the campaign.
The Blues have spent well over £1bn since the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital takeover in 2022, but still don’t have a complete squad.
They spent almost £300m last summer on the likes of Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro.
However, they’ve still failed to address the goalkeeper and centre back issue, with Rosenior chopping and changing between Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, whilst he can’t settle on a first choice centre back partnership.
Shearer has previously claimed Chelsea are implementing a model which won’t succeed, and now he’s slammed their decisions in the transfer market.
“Chelsea are still searching for a top-class goalkeeper and a top-class centre-half,” he told Premier League Productions.
“It’s baffling, really, when you spend that amount of money, that you still haven’t got that.
“And they’re being punished for it, the keeper makes a mistake or two, the centre-halves are too easy to play through.
“Newcastle scored a similar goal to the one Everton scored last weekend when they went straight through the middle of Chelsea.
“Chelsea are not going to achieve what they want while they’re still searching for that.”

Malo Gusto has leapt to the defence of Liam Rosenior, who’s come under increased pressure following a run of four defeats in a row.

Chelsea still appear to be backing Rosenior, but Gusto has stated he can’t understand why the 41-year-old has received so much criticism.
Some of it might be over the top but it will only get louder if Chelsea don’t improve their results after the international break.
