After months of speculation, it was confirmed on Monday that Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Rocco Reitz will join RB Leipzig on a five-year contract at the end of the season.

In an Instagram statement directed at the Borussia Mönchengladbach fans, Reitz stressed that he will remain fully committed to the club for the rest of the campaign and acknowledged that the decision was a difficult one.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to develop further as an athlete and as a person, and I especially thank those responsible for their trust. But this will only take effect next season. Until then, I will play for Borussia – for our Borussia. I can promise you that I will give everything I have in every remaining game – especially in the derby this weekend,” Reitz stated.

"Of course, I can understand that some of you may not comprehend my decision to leave the club. But believe me: this decision was anything but easy for me.

“Our focus should be entirely on the upcoming games. Let’s do everything together to keep collecting points and free ourselves from the bottom, so that this wonderful club can also play in the first league next year.”

Reitz, 23, came through Gladbach's youth ranks and has made 96 appearances for the senior team.

He has worn the captain's armband for most of the season in the absence of the injured Tim Kleindienst.
