Barry Bannan has revealed how much he spent on a night out after Sheffield Wednesday were beaten in the Championship play-off final by Hull City.
New Millwall midfielder Barry Bannan has revealed how much he spent on a night out after his former club Sheffield Wednesday were defeated by Hull City in the 2016 Championship play-off final.
The 2015/16 season marked Bannan's first of 10-and-a-half campaigns with Wednesday before he joined the Lions in January, amid the South Yorkshire side's financial struggles and the ongoing takeover situation that gave the Scotsman no securities over his potential future at Hillsborough
Henrik Pedersen's men are yet to win since their 2-0 victory at Portsmouth in September, with relegation to League One drawing ever closer. Meanwhile, Bannan, since his departure, appeared as a substitute in his Millwall debut in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United, before starting in a 2-0 win over play-off rivals Wrexham this past weekend.

Bannan helped the Owls reach the Championship play-off final in his first season at Hillsborough, but his side were ultimately beaten 1-0 by Hull at Wembley, thanks to Mohamed Diame's winning goal.
And in the aftermath of that heartbreaking defeat, Bannan has revealed on a podcast that was released last week, but appears to be filmed prior to his Sheffield Wednesday exit, that he went out for three nights in a row after failing to win promotion to the Premier League, and he splurged the cash massively.
On the On The Judy podcast, via Total Media Productions on TikTok, the 27-cap Scotland international said: "We got to the play-off final and lost against Hull to get to the Premier League. That was a crazy weekend.
"We did Saturday, Sunday, Monday (going out). But the Monday was just me and my friends from Birmingham. They came down to London, and I think I was in Cirque, and it was something like £25,000 on the night. That was the third day as well, so that wasn't nice.
"Looking back, it's so stupid because you've got kids and the value of money now."
According to Capology's estimates, Bannan was on around £18,000 a week at the time of his five-figure night out, meaning he spent more than his weekly wage on that one night - an astonishing revelation indeed.

Bannan deservedly earned legendary status with Wednesday, having appeared 477 times for the Steel City outfit.
He also notched seven goals and 13 assists when the Owls won promotion from League One via the play-offs in 2023, further cementing his heroic place in Hillsborough folklore.
However, Bannan may always be hurt by the fact that he never won promotion to the Premier League with Wednesday, even though he twice landed a Championship top-six spot with them in 2016 and 2017.
The midfielder went on to excel for the Owls under the stewardship of former boss Danny Rohl, who kept the South Yorkshire club in the second tier in trying circumstances in 2024, before a significantly more comfortable 2024/25 campaign.
Bannan then agreed fresh terms with the Hillsborough club last summer, even when players weren't being paid on time, thanks to the financial mismanagement of former owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Despite earning legendary status, Bannan never got to play in the Premier League for Wednesday.
Consequently, the 36-year-old will be determined to help Millwall, who currently sit fifth in the Championship, achieve their dream of winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
The Lions have bolstered their chances of landing a top-six finish with their three-game unbeaten run, which included a 4-0 thrashing over local rivals Charlton Athletic and their 2-0 win at fellow promotion-chasers Wrexham.
Bannan is set for an emotional occasion this Saturday, when he returns to Hillsborough in Millwall colours so soon after his exit - but it could be an awkward situation if the Scot helps to send the Owls one step closer to League One.
