Without a doubt, the euphoria continues after the back-and-forth match between Chivas and Atlético San Luis yesterday afternoon at AKRON Stadium, which had the entire Rojiblanco Nation on the edge of their seats. El Rebaño showed character to turn the situation around, earning its first three points of the 2025 Apertura and giving its fans something to cheer about ahead of the rest of the semester.
Amid all the excitement we experienced at Guadalajara's home stadium, we witnessed something that hadn't happened in nine years, but that Armando 'Hormiga' González unlocked by giving Mexico's most beloved and popular team the victory. The young Rojiblanco striker became the first Chivas player to score a brace as a substitute since CL16.
With the score at 2-3 to the opposition and 80 minutes on the clock, Gabriel Milito used his last substitution to throw everything at the game, bringing on Hugo Camberos and 'Hormiga' to turn the situation around, and it certainly paid off. It took 'Hormi' just six minutes to respond on the field: first, he identified the space inside the penalty area, made his move, and subtly headed in Alan Mozo's cross to tie the score; towards the end of the match, with the instinct of a goal scorer, he broke away from his marker after Efraín Álvarez's cutback in the six-yard box and sent the ball into the net with his left foot to the delight of the Rojiblanca Fortress, sealing a 4-3 win for the Rebaño.
The last time a Guadalajara player achieved something similar was on March 19, 2016, when Eduardo 'Chofis' López did the same after coming on as a substitute in the 52nd minute against Rayados, and in a matter of five minutes scored a high-quality brace that sealed a 1-3 win for Chivas in J11.
Coincidence? We don't think so, Chivahermanos, but what we are sure of is that the Rebaño made a statement and will arrive with renewed enthusiasm for their Leagues Cup debut this Thursday, May 31, against the NY Red Bulls in New Jersey.
