Fulham could be the most likely destination for Raheem Sterling according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley.

Sterling failed to secure a move away from Chelsea in the summer, and hasn’t played since a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal last season.

As many as five clubs were said to be interested in Sterling, but his preference to remain in London made a move more difficult.

Fulham most likely destination for Raheem Sterling

Sterling has been part of the now infamous “bomb” squad since returning to Chelsea last summer, and has been training away from the first team.

West Ham are believed to have made an approach for Sterling, but the England international isn’t interested in a loan, and is said to want his next move to be permanent.

Sterling hasn’t played for Chelsea since Maresca’s first pre-season.

The winger is into the final 18 months of his contract, and the Blues will be desperately hoping to find a solution this month as they are still paying Sterling in excess of £300,000 per week.

With the January window now open Chelsea will be hoping to see some movement in regards to Sterling, and Plumley has backed Fulham as his most likely destination.

“We’re led to believe from what we’ve seen that the player would rather stay in London. So Newcastle looks unlikely from the player’s side of things in that regard,” he told Football Insider.

“And then I think it’s, you know, kind of all those clubs, if it’s Palace, Fulham, West Ham, where perhaps it’s, you know, I can see I think Fulham would be the one for me.”

Wages the biggest factor in any move

With Fulham a potential destination, Plumley believes wages will be the biggest factor in any move for Sterling.

“I think wages are likely to be the biggest factor in terms of club to club, what happens with the negotiations,” he added.

“It’s going to be a club that, if it does happen, are prepared to pay a portion of the fees.

“I think Chelsea will want that. They won’t just let him go and pay all of his wages. They’ll want some, coming back the other way.”
