The Japan international put in a player-of-the-match performance in what turned out to be a 1-1 draw, with a late goal from Noemie Mouchon cancelling out Ornella Vignola’s opener.

And of the accolade for her performance, she told the club’s official website: “I’m not satisfied with my performance, but I’m happy to get this one, especially against Leicester. I wanted to win against them, but maybe next time!”

Momiki: Everton are working hard

The forward underlined how committed the Toffees’ players are to the cause, despite a less-than-stellar run of results – without a win since the first game of the season.

“Everyone felt like we should’ve won this game, and we are getting better and better, game by game.”

She added: “We need to be 100 per cent every second, every moment, that’s what we need.”

Momiki: Positive vibes are needed

Everton’s next match will be at the Hill Dickinson Stadium as they host Manchester United, on Sunday, 12th October.

United are currently unbeaten in the WSL, and sit fourth in the table – so Momiki knows what a challenge they are likely to present.

“Against Manchester United, it’s going to be tough. We know that. So we need to prepare much better for the weekend.”

She went on: “Every game, we get every chance to win. These four games, we didn’t get to win. But at the same time, we need to have positive vibes in the team towards the next weekend and every game. We have positives to take from this game, but also things to improve. We need to be much better.

“We will give everything on the pitch. We do every game, but maybe that’s not enough to win the game. We need to give more energy, more intensity in the game and also in training to get the result next weekend.”

Everton’s season so far

Since beating Liverpool 4-1 at Anfield on the opening day of the season, Everton have lost 2-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur and 2-1 to London City Lionesses, and 1-0 on the road to Brighton and Hove Albion.

They have also lost 3-1 to Manchester City in the Subway Women’s League Cup.
