Manchester United retain their one-goal lead heading into the final 30 minutes of play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – and they have Senne Lammens to thank for that.

The goalkeeper was called upon for the first time all afternoon when Spurs began trying their luck, having seemingly been ordered by Thomas Frank to really start pushing further afield and testing United’s backline – and that they did.

Initially, the hosts had worked themselves in and around Lammens’ area, before a ball was played in and met by centre-half Cristian Romero.

He was able to get the deftest touch to send his effort goalwards, but saw Lammens somehow equal to it from point-blank range.

Moments later, Joao Palhinha fired a powerful volley through the legs of Harry Maguire and, like his teammate, saw his attempt saved by the young Belgian.

TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher hailed Lammens’ responses as ‘outstanding’, while Thomas Frank was left with his hands on his head on the touchline, in complete disbelief that his men hadn’t found themselves level.

Should the scoreline stay as it is, Lammens would claim his second clean sheet in his fifth appearance since signing on deadline day in September and making his maiden outing against Sunderland.

Even though he went on to concede against Liverpool, he oversaw a sensational display between the sticks and has been a breath of fresh air for the Old Trafford faithful following two seasons of Andre Onana’s turbulent showings.

The 23-year-old is continuing to prove how successful INEOS’ summer signings have been, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha enjoying superb starts to their tenures.

Benjamin Sesko is taking a little longer to find his feet in the English top flight, but with two goals to his name already, he’s certainly on the right track.
